The master bath is the bump out you see in the West facade on the second level. The push out was really needed to break up the 80 some foot wall and also creates quite a nice space for a sink area that does not clutter up the flow of the bathroom. It is a very tall room of above 10 feet I believe and really has a lot of light throughout the day as there is clerestories facing North and East along with the large window to the south.

The shower is getting closer to what I would consider ideal in that it has plenty of natural light and also it has a limited view to the outdoors from the users vantage. As awkward as that sounds, I like that you can look at something as non-static as nature from your shower. In an average house showers are shoved into a closet like setting because the average homeowner is too squeamish to have a window in their bathroom. I envision that if this was my house I would not have a window shade in the entire house. The windows have been placed strategically for ample daylighting and indirect ambient light where the most harsh rays will fall. In example this bathroom, is some 20 feet from grade and unless you were on a cherry picker one could not see into the bathroom from the public venue. Yet the slices of views you get from the sink area and through the louvers in the shower really allow you an awesome vantage point that retains a very private feeling too.

As an added bonus, the roof of the kitchen is in the perfect position (incidentally) to have a nice green roof terrace right off the master bath with that being the only access.

Materials are, cement countertop again, frosted glass shower, teak louvers, walnut flooring, and red cedar siding that wraps in from the exterior into the bump out.

This building is 'green' in some ways and not 'green' in others.

The exterior wall is brick, which is very low maintenance There are also brick walkways which are very permeable. Between the large tree and the overhangs there is plenty of exterior shading. These factors make this building fairly green.

This building is not green because only a small portion of this side of the building is covered by windows providing little natural light.
